China prosecutes former Politburo member

The Tianjin No. 1 Procuratorate has initiated proceedings to prosecute Sun Zhengcai in the Tianjin Municipal Court. The indictment accuses Sun Zhengcai of abusing his positions as Shunyi District Party Secretary, Standing Committee Member of the Municipal Party Committee, Secretary General of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Minister of Agriculture, Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee, Politburo Member, and Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee to help others make profits and accept bribes, and should be prosecuted for criminal responsibility for accepting bribes.

According to Dongfang newspaper, Sun Zhengcai is 54 years old this year, from Shandong province. In 2002, at the age of 39, Tai was elected as a member of the Standing Committee and Secretary General of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, and in 2006 was appointed Minister of Agriculture, the youngest minister of the State Council at that time. In November 2009, Tai was transferred to become Secretary of the Jilin Provincial Party Committee, in 2012 he returned to Chongqing to become Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, and then entered the Politburo at the 18th Congress, becoming the youngest Politburo member, along with the Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, two members of the 6X generation Politburo.

Sun Zhengcai was once expected to join the Politburo Standing Committee at the 19th Congress. However, on July 15, 2017, Tai was suddenly dismissed from his position as Chongqing Party Secretary by the Central Committee and replaced by Guizhou Party Secretary Chen Min'er. At that time, public opinion predicted that he would be investigated.

On July 24, 2017, Xinhua News Agency reported that the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection decided to open a case against Sun Zhengcai for signs of serious disciplinary violations. The investigation showed that Tai seriously violated political discipline, showed off, liked privileges, selected and used talented people based on family ties and interests, took advantage of his position and influence to seek benefits for others, then personally or with people with special relationships accepted huge bribes, helped relatives gain great benefits in business activities, and received many expensive items...

In particular, the act of taking advantage of power to seek benefits for others and then receiving money and goods showed signs of the crime of accepting bribes. In addition, investigators also discovered that Ton Chinh Tai had other clues to commit crimes.

On September 29, 2017, the Politburo Conference considered and approved the report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, decided to expel Sun Zhengcai from the Party and remove him from office, and transferred the crime and other clues to the judicial authorities for handling according to the law. On October 14, the 7th Conference of the 18th Central Committee considered and approved the report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, and confirmed the disciplinary decision to expel Sun Zhengcai from the Party made by the Politburo earlier.

Since January 2018, the press has continuously published articles about Sun Zhengcai's crimes, including his false reporting of poverty reduction data in Chongqing to gain achievements, promote himself, and influence the central government's decisions. His obscene and debauched lifestyle, with many lovers and illegitimate children, has also been exposed. The three lovers who have been named in the press are Huang Suzhi, Liu Fengzhou, and Duan Weihong.
