Death penalty for 2 subjects from Bac Giang to Nghe An for trafficking more than 6.6 kg of drugs

On December 23, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial.trialThe two defendants Tran Van Minh (born in 1971), residing in Canh Nau commune, Yen The district (Bac Giang); Hoang Van The (born in 1984), residing in Xuan Luong commune, Yen The district (Bac Giang) were both charged with "Illegal drug trafficking".
The case file shows that in 2019, Minh happened to meet a man in Lang Son province. Through conversation, this man gave Minh the phone number of a drug dealer in Que Phong district (Nghe An). Around mid-2020, Minh and Hoang Van The discussed buying drugs to resell for profit. The agreed to give Minh money to buy drugs and be responsible for finding a buyer.

Minh contacted a man in Que Phong district and went to Nghe An twice to discuss drug trafficking. Minh did not know the man’s name or age, but because he looked short, he called him “Lun”. Minh then ordered 20 heroin cakes and was quoted 130 million VND/1 cake of heroin by “Lun”.
On December 14, 2020, "Lùn" called Minh to inform him that he had "goods". Then, The gave Minh more than 2.4 billion VND to buy 19 heroin cakes and 5 million VND for the trip. The next morning, Minh took the money and took a bus to Nghe An. At the meeting point, Chau Thon intersection, Que Phong district, Minh handed over the money to "Lùn" and received 19 heroin cakes. That evening, when Minh got on the bus to return to Bac Ninh, he was discovered by Nghe An police, caught red-handed with more than 6.6 kg of drugs.
After Minh was arrested, on March 25, 2021, Hoang Van The turned himself in to the police and confessed to buying and selling drugs with Minh.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted to the crimes as charged in the indictment. Both confessed that they spent billions of dong to buy a large quantity of drugs to sell because of greed. Both asked the court for a chance to live.
Considering that the amount of drugs that the two defendants participated in buying and selling was particularly large and their crimes were particularly serious, the panel sentenced Tran Van Minh and Hoang Van The to death for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics". As for the man who sold the drugs, because Minh did not know his name, background, or specific address, the investigation agency had no basis to investigate and prosecute./.
