Thai army chief agrees to meet protest leaders again

The heads of Thailand's powerful military agreed on December 12 to meet with protest leaders seeking to oust Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

A statement from the armed forces released late on December 12 said the Thai military had invited protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban to a conference on December 14 with the heads of the Thai army, navy and air force to “find a way out for the country.”

The statement said the Thai army chief would act as mediator and “relevant parties” would also attend the conference.

Earlier the same day, Deputy Spokesperson of the Thai Army Werachon Sukondhapatipak said that Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, General Thanasak Patimaprakorn, would not meet with anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban as proposed by Mr. Suthep./.
