From August 15, 4 groups of civil servants will have their retirement age increased by 5 years.
According to Decree No. 50/2022/ND-CP regulating retirement at a higher age for civil servants in public service units, effective from August 15, 2022, 4 groups of civil servants in public service units will have their retirement age increased by 5 years.
Who are the civil servants eligible to retire at an older age?
This Decree provides for retirement at an older age for civil servants with high professional and technical qualifications in public service units and civil servants working in a number of specific career fields.

During the period of retirement at an older age, civil servants only perform professional duties, do not hold leadership or management positions, and are not allowed to retain leadership position allowances. |
This Decree applies to:
1- Officials with the title of Professor or Associate Professor.
2- Officials holding professional titles that require a PhD or specialist II level of education.
3- Forensic examiner, forensic psychiatric examiner.
4- Officials with high expertise and skills in a number of specific career fields as prescribed by specialized laws.
Retiring at an older age, what do civil servants do?
During the period of retirement at an older age, civil servants only perform professional duties, do not hold leadership or management positions, and are not allowed to retain leadership position allowances.
During the retirement period at an older age, if the employee wishes to retire or the public service unit no longer has a need, the retirement regime will be resolved according to the provisions of law.
Maximum number of years to retire at older age
Retirement at an older age for civil servants shall not exceed 5 years (60 months), calculated from the time the civil servant reaches retirement age according to Decree No. 135/2020/ND-CP of the Government regulating retirement age.
Retirement benefits for civil servants at older ages
Officials retiring at an older age are determined to be officials within the total number of employees of the public service unit assigned by the competent authority.
Officials are entitled to salary according to their current professional title and other regimes and policies as prescribed by law.
