Unnatural death after receiving prison sentence for child rape

(Baonghean.vn) - Hoang Van Ka (born in 1985, residing in Hamlet 12, Nghi Kieu Commune, Nghi Loc District) was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "child rape". While awaiting execution of his sentence, Hoang Van Ka suddenly died.

Hoang Van Ka’s trial took place on September 21. After the court announced the verdict, Hoang Van Ka did not file an appeal to a higher court. The defendant is currently being held at the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center awaiting execution of his sentence.

However, at around 1:30 p.m. on October 15, two people in the same cell discovered Hoang Van Ka having convulsions and foaming at the mouth. Upon receiving the news, the doctor at the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center immediately arrived and performed first aid. Hoang Van Ka was then transferred to Nghe An General Hospital.

At the hospital, Hoang Van Ka continued to receive emergency treatment but to no avail. The convict was pronounced dead at around 2:30 p.m. on October 15. Upon receiving the news, the convict’s family expressed outrage and demanded clarification of the cause of Hoang Van Ka’s death.

By the morning of October 16, representatives of the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center had provided all documents related to Hoang Van Ka's health condition during his detention there. The documents showed that during his detention (from June 25, 2017) and while awaiting execution of his sentence, Hoang Van Ka had reported sick 46 times (stomach ache, kidney stones) and was examined and given medicine by the infirmary doctor.

After the death of the convict, his relatives were uncooperative with the authorities in conducting a forensic examination. After much persuasion, at 10:30 a.m. on October 16, the family of convict Hoang Van Ka agreed to let the forensic doctor and criminal technicians perform an autopsy.

The cause of Hoang Van Ka's death is currently being verified and clarified by authorities.
