Speaking before thousands of people at a ceremony honoring the slain police officers, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings urged Americans to acknowledge that racial conflict is a major challenge for the entire United States, and called on people to stand up together to heal the wounds of discrimination.
Mr. Rawlings also reiterated US President Barack Obama's message that not only black people but even police officers are suffering from this discrimination.
The shooting in Dallas took place on the night of July 7 local time during a protest against the shooting death of two black citizens by police in Minnesota and Louisiana.
The main suspect in the police shooting has said he wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers.
This event once again shows two major problems that America has faced for many years: lax gun control and the police's abuse of lethal weapons, especially targeting citizens of color, with racial discrimination.
The US legal system is being challenged by a lack of trust between law enforcement and communities of color.
It can be said that America is going through difficult times and this is also a domestic challenge for President Barack Obama in the last months of his term.
