"I didn't like music at all, but because my parents wanted me to become a musical prodigy like Dang Thai Son, they forced me to study music" - comedian Quang Thang shared.

"caught" Thang "veo" when he had just come from Hai Phong to Hanoi to record a voice for an advertisement. Despite the long journey, Meritorious Artist Quang Thang was still very enthusiastic in giving reporters intimate conversations, sharing his true feelings about his career and family.

Childhood with the paper guitar

The movie Waves at the Bottom of the River once made movie lovers angry while watching because of the father typical of Hai Phong people at that time who was too strict, conservative and cruel. Asked Quang Thang, he was born in the Port City, lived through that time, was his father like the person in the movie? Quang Thang nodded and said, during the period of abolishing the subsidy, at that time there were still some fathers who wanted to guide their children to a bright future, they had to look at examples like pianist Dang Thai Son. He was no exception.

His family forced him to study music, but they were poor and didn't have a piano. His parents drew the keys on paper and wood and forced him to sit and learn to play and sing every day. "All day, "xôn xoson xon do son, xon xon xon do la"... I couldn't stand it. I cried while studying, tears streaming down my face, sometimes wetting my piano. I refused, and went to study drama. My whole family opposed it, saying that the profession was not noble. That was not a profession, forcing me to choose a profession that would have a bright, noble future. But I loved drama, and my family couldn't force me to do it," Meritorious Artist Quang Thang confided.

Determined to study drama, Quang Thang's father only said one thing: Whatever you do, do it well and if it's not good, then quit! Still determined to study drama, but until now, Quang Thang said, he sees that what his father said was right. That's why Quang Thang had to try his best, many times harder than other friends, but he doesn't regret choosing this career. Because of the hardships of the career, Quang Thang also advised his children not to follow his father's career but to choose another career. However, drawing from his own experience, Quang Thang said: "If you don't listen, then I'll have to... listen to them."

The "nothing to do with anything" face

When he was studying at Ngo Quyen School (Hai Phong), Quang Thang was famous for being naughty, but he was naughty like a student, not bad. He was so naughty that, until now, teachers are still afraid when mentioning Quang Thang.

Despite his naughty nature, Quang Thang was smart, studied well, and had a talent for singing. He sang very well and often participated in the team. Quang Thang recalled: "When I was in school, I was often recorded in the class notebook for singing in class and punching the table. The table I sat on always had a hole. I sang very well, so I sang into the hole for my friends to hear. I also played the guitar by tapping on the table with my fingers. That was how it was when I was in school, but as I grew older, I became uglier, so I had to give up my dream of becoming a singer. If I were handsome, I would have become a singer and become rich long ago. Well, I didn't become a singer, I wasn't rich in money but I was rich in love. I sang well, so the girls liked me a lot. Even now, after decades of meeting each other, they still talk about that innocent childhood."

"But being ugly can also be lucky sometimes," Quang Thang laughed. He said that the reason that brought him to comedy was his "unrelated to anything" face. That was when he was at the Hai Phong Drama Troupe, at first he was assigned to play the role of a prince in the play The Count of Monte Cristo, then People's Artist Le Hung thought again, with his face and appearance, he could not play the role of a prince, he was forced to play the role of the robber VamPa.

Quang Thang was very sad at that time. As an actor, who doesn't want to be splendid on stage? Being cast as a robber, People's Artist Le Hung had to encourage him for a long time before Quang Thang agreed. "Teacher Hung told Thang to rest assured, if Thang played this role, even a prince would be overshadowed. I was still very skeptical, but when I actually performed, as soon as I stepped onto the stage, the audience burst into laughter and clapped. From then on, I became interested in comedy and it continues to this day," Quang Thang confided.

Who said he's not rich? I heard he just bought a spacious 70m2 house with 3 floors in Gia Lam. He's a tycoon in the comedy world, right? Quang Thang laughed and said: "Well, I saved up a lot to buy that small house there, as a place to come and go, if I have to perform in Hanoi for a few shows, I'll have a place to eat and sleep."

"My second weakness is my voice. Voice is very important for the theater stage. People say I have a local accent. But this weakness is also my advantage," Quang Thang honestly confided.

He said, in comedy, the voice is not important, as long as you have your own style. So he applied his own style and saw that the audience welcomed him very enthusiastically and supported him. Everyone remembered him for his own style, from then on, he just kept developing it and did not have to change anything. Staying true to his own nature is enough. "Many times when I meet fans or friends, they still imitate what I say, especially Ms. Dau (actress Cong Ly - PV) often imitates me. But never mind, they love them that's why they do that", Quang Thang shared.
