Honoring 200 prestigious people representing ethnic minority areas in Nghe An

That was the general assessment at the 2nd Conference to honor outstanding prestigious people among ethnic minorities in Nghe An province - 2019, taking place in Vinh city on the afternoon of October 15.

Attending the conference, on the Central side, there was comrade Nguyen Thi Tu - Head of the Department of Ethnic Minorities, Ethnic Minorities Committee. On the Nghe An side, there were comrades: Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, along with representatives of provincial departments, branches and 200 prestigious people, representing 1,240 prestigious people among ethnic minorities in the province. Bridge between the Party, government and ethnic minorities

The ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Nghe An province include 252 communes and 1,339 villages. Currently, ethnic minorities account for 14.7% of the province's population. In recent years, the socio-economic situation of the province's ethnic minority areas has gradually stabilized and developed. Contributing to this achievement is the indispensable role of prestigious people.

Prestigious people in the province include: Village elders, village chiefs, hamlet chiefs, party cell secretaries, clan chiefs, veterans, retired cadres, good producers... They are pioneers and leaders in implementing the Party's policies and the State's laws; are the "bridge" for propagating and mobilizing people to apply scientific and technical advances in production and animal husbandry; preserve and promote the fine traditional cultural identities of ethnic groups; at the same time, eliminate backward customs and practices; build new rural areas and cultural life in residential areas; build great national unity; firmly protect territorial sovereignty and national border security.

With such an important role, policies for prestigious people in ethnic minority areas are always given attention. However, in reality, there are still times and places where the awareness of some local Party committees and authorities about the role and position of prestigious people is not really complete; the assignment, decentralization, and recruitment of prestigious people are not unified; specific regulations and rules have not been issued to guide the grassroots in promoting the role of prestigious people. Attention and care for the material and spiritual life of prestigious people is still limited.

Create the best conditions to promote the role of prestigious people

Speaking at the conference, comrade Nguyen Thi Tu - Head of the Department of Ethnic Minorities, Ethnic Committee and comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee acknowledged and commended the outstanding achievements of the delegates who are prestigious people among ethnic minorities in the province.

To further promote the important role of this team, the Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities, Ethnic Committee requested Party committees at all levels, authorities, agencies, units and prestigious people to continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously implement the Party and State's guidelines and policies on promoting the role of prestigious people among ethnic minorities; strengthen inspection and supervision work, promptly detect and remove difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing regimes and policies.

At the conference, comrade Nguyen Van Thong emphasized: "Promoting the role of prestigious people is an important factor contributing to maintaining political stability in ethnic minority areas. Therefore, this must be carried out regularly and continuously, both to serve long-term requirements and to be associated with the task of solving problems arising at each time and in each locality."

Party committees and authorities at all levels must create the best conditions to promote the role of prestigious people, including the role of social supervision and criticism; create conditions for prestigious people to participate in giving opinions on building local socio-economic development programs and plans in the most timely and effective manner.

On this occasion, 8 prestigious delegates received Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, 18 delegates received Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, 24 delegates received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial Border Guard Command and 150 delegates received Certificates of Merit from the Head of the Provincial Ethnic Minorities Committee.
