Despite scoring first, the Vietnamese team still lost to Thailand at My Dinh Stadium, in the 2024 international friendly tournament.

On the evening of September 10, the Vietnam National Team hosted the Thailand National Team at the 2024 international friendly tournament at My Dinh Stadium (Hanoi).

Entering the match, coach Kim Sang-sik's players showed great determination, but the pace of the match was quite slow. The Vietnamese team played with a low formation and focused all their attention on defense.

Meanwhile, the Thai team had more possession of the ball and somewhat dominated the home team. However, a surprise happened when from a simple attack, the Vietnamese team scored a goal. In the 21st minute, number 22 (Tien Linh) broke through 2 Thai defenders, before finishing accurately, defeating goalkeeper Khammai.

However, Thailand's attack was deadlocked but they took advantage of a chance from a set piece to equalize in the 26th minute. After a teammate's wall, Suphanat headed the ball close to the goal, giving Nguyen Filip no chance to block.

In a tight game, Vietnam's defense unexpectedly made a mistake. In the 41st minute, Nguyen Phong Hong Duy's missed clearance created an opportunity for Patrik Gustavsson to finish close to the goal, putting Thailand ahead. The first half ended with a score of 1-2 in favor of Thailand.

In the second half, the Vietnamese team had another chance to score an equalizer. However, Van Duc's handling was still too simple for the Thai goalkeeper.

After several ineffective attacks, coach Kim Sang-sik made another adjustment, Hung Dung and Xuan Manh left the field to make way for Van Thanh and Vi Hao. Quang Hai and Hoang Duc were pulled down to play in midfield, while Vi Hao played alongside Tien Linh and Van Duc in attack. Van Thanh played flexibly on the right wing.

In the final minutes of the match, Thailand actively played a defensive game. Vietnam had a lot of possession but lacked precision in the decisive moves. Van Duc's shot was the only significant chance for the home team from the beginning of the second half.

Vietnam pushed their formation too high and suffered a counter-attack in the 88th minute. Channarong charged down to face the goalkeeper but put the ball wide. This was also the last notable situation of the match.

In the end, the Thai team won against the Vietnamese team with a score of 1-2./.
