Japanese Yen exchange rate today April 30, 2025: Japanese Yen slightly decreased
Japanese Yen exchange rate today 4/30/2025: USD/JPY pair edged up to near 142.30 as the US dollar held steady ahead of the release of the US JOLTS Job Openings data for March.
The DXY index, which measures the greenback's strength against six other major currencies, also edged up around 99.10.
Economists predict the US will record about 7.5 million new job openings in March, slightly lower than the previous month's 7.56 million. However, this figure is expected to have little impact on market expectations of the Federal Reserve's interest rate policy, which is expected to be maintained in the range of 4.25% - 4.50% at the meeting next May.
In addition, the market is also turning its attention to the Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) report due out on Friday.
Investor sentiment towards the US dollar has been partly affected by concerns surrounding the US-China trade outlook. After US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said China should take the initiative to ease tensions, investors expressed doubts about the possibility of a quick resumption of negotiations between the two countries.
In Asia, markets are keeping an eye on the Bank of Japan (BoJ) policy meeting scheduled for Thursday. The BoJ is expected to keep its interest rate unchanged at 0.5%, but investors will be looking for new signals on the possibility of policy adjustments amid the volatile global economy, especially after new tariff policies from the US.
