U-20 Vietnam does not have the strongest lineup for this match because goalkeeper Tien Dung and center back Tan Sinh are slightly injured; and midfielder Quang Hai is busy with Hanoi FC playing in the AFC Cup 2017 in the Philippines. Therefore, coach Hoang Anh Tuan arranged the starting lineup including goalkeeper Si Huy. Four defenders Doan Van Hau, Trong Dai, Tan Tai, Dinh Trong. Four midfielders Minh Di, Thai Quy, Tien Dung, Thanh Hao. Striker pair Tran Thanh, Duc Chinh.
Meanwhile, U-23 Borussia Monchengladbach has 8 players from the U-19 age group. With such a similar opponent, U-20 Vietnam played quite well and created a balanced match in the first half. However, a mistake in defense created almost the only opportunity for U-23 Monchengladbach to exploit and score a goal in the 30th minute of the match.
In the second half, U-20 Vietnam made a few substitutions to continue testing the lineup. However, coach Hoang Anh Tuan's players could not create any dangerous situations and suffered a 0-1 defeat. Speaking after the match, coach Hoang Anh Tuan said that the U-20 Vietnam team played tightly and with determination to have a good match against U-23 Borussia Moenchengladbach. However, he needs to work harder to continue helping his players improve in the remaining two friendly matches here.
On April 23, U-20 Vietnam will have the second friendly match with U-21 Roda JC at Seghemanstraat Stadium (Netherlands).
