U16 Vietnam meets host in Southeast Asian tournament semi-finals

Young Vietnamese players will compete with U16 Cambodia for the regional championship match taking place tomorrow night, July 21.

The semi-final will take place at the Cambodia Olympic Stadium in the capital Phnom Penh at 6:30 p.m.

Vietnam U16 entered the semi-finals as the first team in Group A. Coach Dinh The Nam's students played five matches, won four and drew one. Meanwhile, Cambodia U16 was in Group B and only won the ticket to the next round in the last round yesterday, July 19.

The top spot in Group B soon belonged to U16 Thailand, the team that won all four matches. Meanwhile, due to losing 0-6 to U16 Thailand,Cambodia U16must beat U16 East Timor to get the ticket. If they lose, the ticket to the next round will be given to the opponent.

With home field advantage and home crowd, U16 Cambodia played well and beat U16 East Timor 3-0, thereby finishing second in this group, to meet U16 Vietnam.

“We really like U16 Cambodia to make it to the semi-finals. Playing against them in the semi-finals, the audience will be crowded, the players will be excited,” an assistant coach of U16 Vietnam shared with VnExpress after the team was sure to advance as the top team in Group A. And that wish has come true.

According to this assistant, U16 Cambodia is not too strong, and if they play at their best, U16 Vietnam can definitely think about a ticket to the final match. "The toughest opponent in this tournament is of course still U16 Thailand. They bring to the tournament the strongest young players to prepare for the U16 Asian Cup," he commented.

In the other semi-final, U16 Thailand will meet U16 Australia, the team that lost to U16 Vietnam 0-3 in the group stage.
