U22 Vietnam: Which 4 players will be eliminated?

From the 28 players who initially gathered a month ago, the U22 Vietnam squad has only 24 members left to train in Korea. Goalkeeper Van Truong left the team due to injury, followed by Duc Huy, Anh Tai and Tien Dung also having to say goodbye to their teammates.

If Duc Huy was eliminated due to not recovering from his injury, Anh Tai and Tien Dung were eliminated simply due to technical factors. All three were players not registered by Coach Huu Thang for the U23 Asian qualifiers.

Priority for strikers and goalkeepers

Because only 20 players are allowed to be registered, 4 more players will be eliminated when U22 Vietnam finalizes the list for the 29th SEA Games. Most noticeably, if they are not injured and are rarely put on the field by the coaching staff, the probability of being eliminated is the highest.

Because there are only 3 goalkeepers, Sy Huy, despite not playing in 3 qualifying matches for the U23 Asian Cup and 1 friendly match with the K-League All-Stars, is still allowed to stay. Tan Tai, the player who was absent from the list in all 4 matches mentioned above, is most likely to be eliminated.

With only 3 strikers, Tuan Tai has not been able to show much after recovering from a ligament injury. The striker of Song Lam Nghe An has been practicing and playing with a bandaged knee in recent times. As a skilled player, it is a pity that with the policy of using foreign players as strikers, Tuan Tai has not been given much competition in the V-League by SLNA's coaching board like his juniors.

In the center forward position, coach Huu Thang still has Duc Chinh and Thanh Binh. When needed, Huu Thang can promote Cong Phuong and Van Toan, so even without Tuan Tai, he is not too worried.

As for the midfield, with different playing styles, Huu Thang will use 8 midfielders in rotation. Most likely no player will have to be an audience because U22 Vietnam will play with many different formations: 4-1-4-1, 4-4-1-1.

In addition, having to play 2 days/match will force the coaching staff to rotate the midfielders, depending on the nature of the match. In our opinion, even Tuan Anh, Xuan Truong, Van Toan, Duy Manh - players with good skills - will not play all the group stage matches. Players like Quang Hai, Hong Duy, Dong Trieu, Lam Ti Phong must be ready to enter the field when requested by the coaching staff.

Small land, crowded people

Currently, U22 Vietnam has 9 defenders, including 5 central defenders and 4 full-backs. Since Duy Manh and Dong Trieu can play central defender when needed, Coach Huu Thang can completely eliminate 2-3 names from the defense without worrying about a lack of personnel.

This is the line that is most likely to be eliminated, because few coaches dare to use players who do not have regular practice. The central defenders Van Khanh, Tien Dung and Dinh Trong are being continuously tested by Huu Thang.

Meanwhile, U20 player Tan Sinh only appeared in the last 15 minutes of the match against Macau and is at high risk of being a spectator. The defender from Quang Nam is considered too young and inexperienced to play the central defender position.

It is quite surprising that young defender Van Hau plays regularly, so on the left wing, Van Kien and Thanh Thinh will be considered. If striker Tuan Tai is kept, both will likely be eliminated because Van Thanh plays well on both wings. In Korea, striker Tuan Tai cannot perform well, so only one of the two names mentioned above will be eliminated.
