(Baonghean.vn) - Meeting U23 Jordan in the second match of Group D is an opportunity for U23 Vietnam to reclaim the "debt" from the past with the team from the West Asian region.

At the 2016 AFC U23 Championship, U23 Vietnam and U23 Jordan were in Group D with the other two teams, U23 UAE and U23 Australia. In the opening match, coach Toshiya Miura and his team lost to U23 Jordan with a score of 1-3 and Duy Manh was the player who scored the consolation goal for U23 Vietnam.

4 years later, at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, once again U23 Vietnam, U23 UAE and U23 Jordan were in the same group, Group D, alongside U23 North Korea. In the opening match, while U23 Vietnam drew 0-0 with U23 UAE, U23 Jordan defeated U23 North Korea with a score of 2-1.

If U23 Vietnam defeats U23 Vietnam in the second match on January 13, U23 Jordan will automatically win a ticket to the quarter-finals. On the other hand, if U23 Vietnam loses to U23 Jordan, the chance of passing the group stage for Coach Park Hang-seo and his team will be extremely slim.

Therefore, the match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Jordan, taking place at Chang Arena (Buriram) at 8:15 p.m. on January 13, will be extremely fierce and exciting. Whichever team wins, the door to the next round will be wide open for that team.

In all aspects, U23 Jordan is not much better than the team led by Coach Park Hang-seo. Going into this match, Quang Hai and his teammates only lost to U23 Jordan in terms of points and past head-to-head record (lost 1-3 at the 2016 AFC U23 Championship).

However, under Mr. Park, U23 Vietnam and the Vietnam National Team often achieved positive results when facing opponents from the West Asian region. Before winning the runner-up position at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, U23 Vietnam defeated U23 Iraq and U23 Qatar respectively.

Don’t forget, in the 1/8 round of the 2019 Asian Cup, Coach Park Hang-seo’s Vietnam team eliminated the Jordan team after a penalty shootout. This is the basis for Quang Hai and his teammates to believe in a favorable result against U23 Jordan. Most likely, U23 Vietnam will be able to pay back the “debt” of the past.
