Kiev will refuse to comply with the Minsk agreements if European countries ease the pressure of sanctions against Moscow, - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said.

“If now, after Russia began issuing passports to residents of Donbass, you take a step towards meeting with Russia, it will destroy the entire logic of what we have done so far,” - the Ukrainian politician emphasized in a comment to the “Evropeiskaya Pravda” newspaper.

As the newspaper notes, Mr. Klimkin made similar statements in Brussels during a meeting of foreign ministers of European Union member states.

In the opinion of the head of Ukraine's foreign affairs agency, easing the European Union sanctions regime "will kill" the Minsk agreements.

In late April, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree simplifying the procedure for issuing Russian passports to residents of certain districts of Ukraine's Lugansk and Donetsk regions.

According to him, this move is purely humanitarian in nature, Moscow does not want to create problems for Kiev, but the situation with civil rights in Donbass has gone beyond acceptable boundaries.

Russia's decision met with resistance from Kiev. Specifically, Mr. Klimkin promised to respond to this with "surprises", as well as called on G7 foreign ministers to take new sanctions against Russia. However, the European Union refused to approve new restrictions against Moscow.
