Ukraine concerned about phone call between Trump-Putin leaders
Ukrainian experts say that the two leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are no longer interested in Mr. Zelensky's position in the negotiations.
According to RIA Novosti on June 15, former advisor to former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Oleg Soskin, said that a phone call between the Russian and US presidents indicated that the leaders of the two countries had stopped taking into account Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky's opinion in negotiations on Ukraine.
"A very important event. In fact, President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin are going on a different path, and they are getting closer and closer, even going to meet. They have completely pushed Mr. Zelensky out of the negotiation process," said Mr. Leonid Kuchma.
This expert also believes that the relationship between Moscow and Washington is developing more and more dynamically, while "forgetting" the existence of the relationship between Ukraine and the US.
Earlier, on the evening of June 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a 50-minute phone call with his US counterpart Donald Trump. The Russian leader's assistant, Yuri Ushakov, said the heads of state discussed the worsening situation in the Middle East and the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
The Russian leader stressed that Moscow adheres to the Istanbul agreements and is ready to continue negotiations with Ukraine after June 22. Meanwhile, President Trump expressed his interest in ending the conflict as soon as possible.
In addition, President Putin congratulated President Trump on his birthday, and the 250th anniversary of the US Army. The leaders honored the spirit of solidarity of the nations during World War II.
Regarding the conflict between Israel and Iran, in a phone call with President Trump, President Putin condemned Israel's campaign against Iran and expressed serious concerns about the possibility of an escalation of the conflict. Mr. Putin said that Russia has proposed concrete steps to negotiate Iran's nuclear program.
The Russian president also informed his US counterpart about telephone contacts with the leaders of Israel and Iran.
For his part, President Trump assessed the situation in the Middle East as very alarming, and also acknowledged the consequences of the attack by the Israel Defense Forces.
“The common point is that the two leaders of Russia and the US, despite such a complicated situation, do not rule out returning to the path of negotiations on Iran's nuclear program,” said the Russian president's aide.
