The statement said that Mr. Vitko is suspected of deliberate actions to change the borders of Ukraine, calls for treason, organizing activities aimed at sabotaging important defense bases, planning, organizing and directly participating in hostilities against Ukraine.

As requested, Mr. Vitko must appear for questioning on April 25.

Previously, the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit against Mr. Vitko in March 2014.

In August 2015, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office summoned Russian General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov for questioning on suspicion of "organizing, preparing and conducting armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine." However, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that the allegations were baseless.

Mr. Vitko was appointed Commander of the Black Sea Fleet in April 2013. During the Crimea incident in the spring of 2014, Mr. Vitko participated in negotiations with the Ukrainian Navy. This was also the reason why the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office initiated criminal proceedings against Mr. Vitko on charges of inciting treason./.
