Ukraine and the United States unexpectedly issued a joint statement against 'Nord Stream-2'
The joint statement was issued after a meeting between the two countries' leaders, Vladimir Zelensky and Joe Biden, at the White House.
Ukraine and the United States have once again expressed their opposition to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which they consider a threat to European energy security. The joint statement was issued after a meeting between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Zelensky and Joe Biden, at the White House.
The two countries issued a joint statement on the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, noting that these countries continue to oppose the Nord Stream 2 project. The United States plans to take measures in accordance with the law and energy diplomacy, including the appointment of a senior adviser on energy security.

It is expected that the US actions will help maintain Ukraine's role as a gas transit hub and ensure the security of its supplies "during the current energy transition period". According to the US, the use of energy as a geopolitical weapon is unacceptable.
“The governments of Ukraine and the United States support efforts to increase gas supplies to Ukraine from diversified sources,” the statement said.
In addition, the document also stated that Ukraine and the United States "contribute to enhancing Ukraine's energy security through a policy of applying sustainable, effective and long-term solutions, supported by ongoing corporate governance reform."

Project "Nord Stream-2"
Nord Stream 2 is a nearly completed gas pipeline from Russia to Germany with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The countries that are strongly opposed to the project are the United States, which wants to promote its LNG resources to the EU countries, as well as Ukraine and Poland, which call the project political. Washington has imposed sanctions four times to hinder the implementation of the project, but construction is in its final stages and will be completed by the end of this summer.

Moscow has repeatedly called for an end to the politicization of the situation and noted that the gas pipeline is beneficial not only for Russia, but also for the European Union.
