Ukraine confirms 176 people on board UIA plane that crashed in Iran were killed

Ukraine confirmed that 176 people, including 167 passengers and 9 crew members, were killed in the Boeing 737 crash in Iran on the morning of January 8.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on January 8 that all passengers and crew on the Boeing 737 of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) that crashed in Iran that morning were killed.

In a statement, Mr. Zelensky said Ukraine was working to verify the situation and the total number of casualties.

"I would like to express my sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of all passengers and crew," Mr. Zelensky shared.

Earlier, Iran's state news agency ISNA reported: a Boeing 737 crashed in Iran shortly after takeoff due to a technical problem, the plane was carrying about 167 - 170 passengers.

According to flight tracking site Flightview, Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 was scheduled to take off at 5:15 a.m. local time on January 8, bound for Boryspil International Airport in Kiev, Ukraine. The actual departure time was delayed by nearly an hour, to 6:12 a.m.

Boeing said it was aware of the crash and was gathering more information.
