The dream of a Vietnamese male student who won a gold medal at the 2017 International Biology Olympiad

The young man who won the gold medal at the 2017 International Biology Olympiad hopes to become a scientist whose research projects bring practical benefits to the country.

Today (August 2), a delegation of 4 Vietnamese students participating in the 28th International Biology Olympiad 2017 returned home from the UK.

The honor for the Vietnamese delegation is that at this year's competition, there were 3 students winning prizes, including 1 Gold Medal and 2 Silver Medals. Among them, the outstanding student was Truong Dong Hung, a 12th grade student at Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien Hue province, who achieved 55% of the practical score and 75% of the theoretical score.

With this result, he ranked 22nd out of 245 contestants, was the only student of the Vietnamese delegation to win a Gold Medal and was the individual with the highest score among all the times Vietnamese students participated in the International Biology Olympiad up to now.

Student Truong Dong Hung was born into a family with a tradition of studiousness. His mother is a primary school teacher, his father was a math major at Quoc Hoc Hue High School. Since childhood, he inherited his father's talent for math, but he developed a love for biology when he was in 8th grade at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School.

The biological world, plants, and animals surrounding humans have many mysteries that have attracted the Hue student to explore and conquer. That passion has been nurtured by Dong Hung until today.

Consider self-study as the key factor determining success

Not only is he good at Biology, the student at Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted in Hue is also good at all subjects. With his good English translation skills, Truong Dong Hung has supplemented his knowledge of Biology by translating good specialized books into websites about this subject.

The secret to studying of this Hue student is to grasp basic knowledge right from class, considering self-study and self-research as the key factor to decide all success, not going to extra classes.

Four students attended the 28th International Biology Olympiad in 2017.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Buu Tuan, Principal of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, said that this is the first time the school has had a student win a Gold medal at the International Biology Olympiad.

Since grade 10, Dong Hung has won the Gold Medal for excellent students in Biology in the Northern Delta coastal region. In grade 11, he won the Second Prize in the National Excellent Student in Biology and the First Prize in the Central Highlands computer competition.

At Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, everyone knows that Truong Dong Hung is not only an excellent student but also actively participates in sports, group, and other social activities...

With his achievements, Truong Dong Hung was admitted directly to the Faculty of Biology, University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University. His dream is to study Quantum Biology in depth and become a scientist whose research works on Biology bring practical benefits, serving social life./.
