Van Quyet was removed from the nomination for the Vietnam Golden Ball.

The striker who just received disciplinary action for hitting a Quang Ninh player is no longer on the list of candidates for the 2017 Golden Ball.

"The Organizing Committee, after holding a meeting on the afternoon of November 30 and consulting with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), decided to remove the name of player Nguyen Van Quyet of Hanoi Club from the nomination list for the Men's Golden Ball category," the announcement of the award voting organization yesterday said.

Strikers Nguyen Van Quyet (Hanoi FC) and Dinh Thanh Trung (Quang Nam) are the two strongest candidates for the prestigious individual title of Vietnamese Football 2017. However, in the final match of V-League, Van Quyet elbowed and hit Nghiem Xuan Tu of Than Quang Ninh. The captain of the Vietnamese team was then fined 15 million VND by VFF and suspended from two matches in the 2018 Vietnamese professional football tournaments.

According to the regulations of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam Golden Ball Award, in addition to professional factors, nominated players must also ensure ethical factors on the field. The regulations of the award also stipulate that nominated players must not be subject to disciplinary action from the club, local football organization, or VFF. According to these regulations, Van Quyet was eliminated.

This is not the first time Van Quyet has been excluded from the nomination for the Vietnam Golden Ball. Last year, the Hanoi FC striker lost the chance to compete for the most prestigious individual award of the year because of thepushed referee Cong Khanh on Khanh Hoa field, and was banned from playing for five matches and not allowed to play for the Vietnam national team.

Besides Van Quyet, the Organizing Committee of the 2017 Vietnam Golden Ball also eliminated Thanh Hoa striker Uche from the Best Foreign Player 2017 category because this player was also banned by the VFF from playing two matches in the 2018 season due to his behavior of reacting to the referee in the final round of the V-League.

The organizing committee of the 2017 Vietnam Golden Ball Award will distribute ballots to football experts, coaches, and sports journalists nationwide and collect ballots before December 10.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 2, 2018 at the Voice of Ho Chi Minh City (VOH) Theater.
