Why can eating fresh chili peppers regularly help prolong life?

Research from the University of Vermont, USA, shows that eating red peppers can help you live longer. The results were published in the scientific journalPLOS One, based on analysis of data collected by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) III.
Scientists followed 16,000 people for 23 years and found that those who ate chili regularly were less likely to die than those who did not, according toFood News.
In 2015, a study by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences came to a similar conclusion. Their data showed that people who ate spicy foods once or twice a week had a 10% lower mortality rate than those who ate non-spicy foods.
Chili peppers can help kill or repel about 75% of harmful bacteria. Chili peppers are also an excellent source of antioxidants, rich in vitamins A and C, as well as the minerals iron and potassium.
On the other hand, chili can also help you lose weight.
Li Qu, a nutritionist at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, said that eating fresh chili peppers regularly can reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. He encouraged people to eat more spicy foods to improve their health and reduce the risk of death, even at a young age.
