The North Korean mission to the United Nations has condemned the US and its allies for launching a negotiation on human rights issues, ignoring the UN Charter and the opinions of “the majority of member states.”
“If the US and other hostile forces threaten the DPRK by holding talks and discussions at the Security Council on human rights issues, this “dream” will never come true. We strongly condemn these “emergency meetings” and propose to open political and military confrontation with the DPRK and recognize the DPRK as a nuclear power,” the report of the DPRK permanent mission said.
The North Korean mission also expressed outrage at the UN Security Council's refusal to convene a session to discuss unprecedented large-scale military exercises by the US and South Korea.
Accordingly, North Korea will strongly respond with a surprise preemptive strike, including attacks on land, at sea, underwater and in the air, along with a series of other measures. "At the same time, tough moves in the North Korean way will also be immediately deployed to cope with provocations of any form and level from the US side," the statement stressed.
Previously, on December 11, the UN Security Council opened a discussion session on the human rights situation in North Korea proposed by the US, despite opposition from Russia, China, and most of the US's allies.
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley stressed that the task of maintaining world peace and security is linked to promoting human rights. Citing the human rights in Venezuela and Syria, Ms. Haley said: “If we review the events, it will show that if any country does not care about its people, there will be conflicts.”
During the meeting, the US side also invited a number of North Korean defectors to attend, to mention the story of human rights in North Korea. "We need to let the world know what is happening in the 'black box' called North Korea," Ms. Haley said.
In response to the US, the North Korean mission affirmed that the US's move demonstrated a "stalemate" in finding all measures to punish and threaten the peninsula.
