'Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today'

Meeting with officials, civil servants, public employees, and employees of the Government Office before working hours on the first day of the new year, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized "don't leave today's work for tomorrow" and requested "to get to work immediately, not to let any negligence occur in the process of fighting the epidemic as well as other political tasks right from the beginning of the year".

On the morning of January 30, before working hours on the first day after the traditional Tet holiday, the Government Office organized aMeeting with all cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Deputy Prime Ministers attended.

Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung said that preparations for Tet this year were directed early and proactively. Before Tet, the Secretariat issued a Directive, the Prime Minister issued 2 Directives and 3 Official Dispatches directing preparations for Tet. In particular, Decree 100 on traffic safety was issued at the right time before Tet, receiving great consensus from society. Before Tet, the market for goods was very rich, purchasing power increased but prices were stable, Vietnamese goods were trusted and chosen by consumers. Social security policies were well implemented.

Departments, Bureaus, and units under the Government Office ensure that they are on duty and on standby in accordance with regulations, strictly implement the reporting regime, and promptly handle any arising work. On the third day of Tet, they advised on the issuance of an Official Dispatch of the Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee on ensuring traffic safety during the last days of the Tet holiday; and submitted for issuance the Prime Minister's Directive on the prevention and control of acute respiratory infections caused by the new strain of Corona virus (nCoV).

During the 7-day Tet holiday, the Government Office received 231 incoming documents, processed and issued 57 documents (including 7 Decisions, Official Dispatches, Directives of the Prime Minister and 4 Conclusion Notices of the Deputy Prime Minister; 7 daily quick reports).

“On the first working day today, the Government Office officially instructs all civil servants to immediately start handling work, especially the backlog of work due to the Tet holiday. Do not organize parties, celebrate Tet, or attend festivals during office hours, as this will affect work and working hours,” said Minister and Head of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung. Today, the Government Office proposed that the Prime Minister issue an Official Dispatch directing and urging all agencies and localities to carry out work right from the first working day after the Tet holiday.

Appreciating the efforts of the Government Office, especially in organizing the implementation of policies and measures set forth by the Government, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the Government Office has made important and comprehensive contributions to the overall achievements of the country, especially in being on duty during Tet very seriously. "I regularly receive reports from the Government Office on the situation of being on duty during Tet, demonstrating responsibility and good synthesis," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister applauded the Government Office for paying great attention to the lives of officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers. Not only that, the Government Office also advised the Government on organizing and taking care of people's Tet celebrations, ensuring the supply of goods, security, safety, and especially Decree 100, which helps "many wives feel secure because their husbands no longer drink alcohol or go on the road."

During Tet, we have resolutely directed the prevention and control of the Corona epidemic with strong measures, which have been highly appreciated by the international community and the people.

Emphasizing “don’t leave today’s work for tomorrow”, the Prime Minister requested the Government Office to immediately get to work, including research, consultation, synthesis, and situational awareness, especially regarding the shortcomings and problems that the Government has reviewed such as the disbursement of public investment capital, the arrangement and equitization of state-owned enterprises, etc. to complete the goals and targets for 2020 set higher than those for 2019.

"The Government Office cannot delay any work assigned by the Government or requested by ministries, branches, or localities," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Considering that the nCoV epidemic is developing very complicatedly in China and many other countries, the Prime Minister stated that we consider the prevention and control of this epidemic as the top priority task of all levels and sectors, in which the Government Office must regularly monitor, urge, propose, and advise the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers to handle arising issues, to protect the lives and health of the people. The Prime Minister requested the Government Office to have a working group to help the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers regularly monitor, report and update in order to have timely, strong, and comprehensive solutions. "Comrades must get to work immediately, not allowing any negligence to occur in the process of fighting the epidemic as well as other political tasks at the beginning of the year."
