If the results of the third vaccine trial meet the requirements for safety and protective effectiveness, the dengue vaccine will be circulated in Vietnam in 2018.

Dengue vaccine is safe for users and has the ability to protect over 60% - this is the result of the evaluation of dengue vaccine after phase 3 trial in Vietnam.

At the final health check and assessment for more than 2,300 children participating in the dengue vaccine trial, from 2 to 14 years old, all had their families' consent. The children participating will receive 3 doses of dengue vaccine, each 6 months apart.

This testing process has been carried out over the past 6 years in My Tho, Tien Giang and Long Xuyen, An Giang - two areas with high rates of dengue fever for many years.

Results show that for children who receive all three doses of dengue vaccine: the risk of infection is reduced by more than 65%; hospitalizations are reduced by more than 80% and severe cases by over 93%.

This is a clinical trial project for dengue fever vaccine that has been prepared since 2009. If the results of the third vaccine trial meet the requirements for safety and protective effectiveness, in 2018, this vaccine will be circulated in Vietnam and help people proactively prevent dengue fever.

Currently, 17 countries have allowed the circulation of dengue fever vaccine, of which Brazil and the Philippines have mass vaccinated dengue fever vaccine.
