This year's ASEAN Children's Forum takes place in the context of the ASEAN Community being officially established on December 31, 2015, with commitments to promote and protect children's rights and enhance social security being prioritized.
In addition, moving towards a friendly and child-friendly ASEAN Community, where all children can share and enjoy the common values that the Community brings, is one of the basic goals of ASEAN, contributing to building a people-centered and socially responsible ASEAN Community.
For the above reasons, Vietnam has chosen the theme “One ASEAN, One Vision for Children” for this forum.
The main objective of the forum is to contribute to building a friendly ASEAN Community, close to all children in the region; increase children's participation, listen to children's voices and promote the implementation of children's rights.
In addition to preparing for the forum's official activities, from March 10 to May 10, Vietnam launched a drawing and message composition contest on ASEAN Vision 2025 to promote ASEAN and the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 to all children in the region.
The contest has attracted millions of children and adolescents across ASEAN, encouraging them to express their views and aspirations for an ASEAN Community.
The award ceremony and exhibition of the children's paintings will be held within the framework of the Forum from June 20-23.
For the official activities, during the 4 days of the Forum, children aged 12-18 from 10 ASEAN member countries will discuss and give their opinions and views on issues of great concern to them today, including preventing and combating child trafficking in ASEAN; protecting children in the online environment; preventing and combating violence against children and ASEAN children and climate change.
Finally, a Joint Recommendation/Statement of ASEAN Children will be made and submitted to the ASEAN Ministers in charge of social welfare and development for consideration.
Since 2010, the ASEAN Children Forum (ACF) has been one of the main activities under the ASEAN member countries' obligations under the social welfare and development channel.
The forum is held every two years and rotates among member countries in alphabetical order. This is a forum organized to listen to the voices of children, create conditions for ASEAN children to express their views and send that message to officials and ministers in charge of social welfare and development of ASEAN./.
