Vietnam will have smart cities by 2025
Forming smart urban chains in the North, Central, South and Mekong Delta regions, with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City and Can Tho City as the core.
The Prime Minister has just approved the Project on sustainable smart urban development in Vietnam for the 2018-2025 period, with a vision to 2030.
Accordingly, the Project strives to build a legal foundation for smart urban development by 2020, and conduct investment preparation work for pilot implementation at the urban and urban area levels.

In the immediate future, at least 3 new urban areas will be supported to invest in construction and pilot smart urban solutions. |
In particular, reviewing and building a common legal framework for sustainable smart urban development, issuing policy mechanisms applicable to pilot areas; building and piloting the application of the ICT Reference Framework for smart urban development, building an urban spatial data infrastructure system, consolidating land data, building on GIS platforms and other databases.
Build appropriate models in population management, traffic, land and construction investment in pilot urban areas; build a national urban database in phase 1; support at least 3 new urban areas to invest in construction and pilot smart urban solutions.
By 2025, phase 1 of the smart urban development pilot will be implemented. This will include the development and completion of the legal framework and legal regulations based on the preliminary and final review of the pilot implementation; and the application of the ICT Reference Framework for Smart Urban Development in Vietnam.
Announce priority national standards to serve the implementation of pilot construction of smart cities, giving priority to the fields of urban management, lighting, traffic, water supply and drainage, waste collection and treatment, power grid, natural disaster risk warning system and ICT infrastructure system; develop urban spatial data infrastructure, consolidate land, construction and other data on GIS platform in pilot urban areas; pilot application of the mechanism for granting certification of new smart urban areas...
By 2030, complete the pilot phase 1, gradually expand by field and region, forming a network of smart cities with the ability to spread.
