Principal Doan Cong Thao shared: With the achievements from this competition, it can be said that in just half of the first semester of the 2015-2016 school year, Giang Vo Secondary School has twice made its mark at the international intellectual playground.
In early November, 12 students from the school representing Vietnamese students at the 12th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO) all won medals with 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 4 Bronze.
This result has affirmed the constant efforts of teachers and students of the school, contributing to the overall achievements of the Education and Training sector of Ba Dinh district and the capital.
Not showing any signs of fatigue after the stressful exam, Nguyen Duc Minh - Silver medal winner (class 9A17, Giang Vo Secondary School) said that this was the first time he participated in an international intellectual playground.
Impressed by the scale (nearly 300 teams with about 1,500 students competing from about 40 countries and with global leadership) and the rather special way of competing of this exam, Duc Minh said:
The most stressful part is the individual competition. For this content, each contestant has to go through 3 small rounds. The first round consists of 14 questions, the second round consists of 4 questions, and the final round consists of 2 questions. It is worth mentioning that each round lasts only 10 minutes.

Due to the short time, the test only required writing the results. However, this way of testing helped me a lot in practicing logical thinking, quick calculation and especially the ability to imagine geometry, because there was no time to draw pictures so the candidates had to visualize in their heads to solve.
The relay and team competitions require professional coordination from each member. Therefore, teamwork and team spirit are also valuable lessons I learned from this competition.
“For today’s achievement, I would like to thank Professor Do Duc Thai - who has accompanied and wholeheartedly guided me and my teammates for half a year. I would also like to thank Mr. Vi Manh Tuong and the teachers of Giang Vo Secondary School, and my parents, who have always encouraged and believed in me to help me be more confident in this exam” - Nguyen Duc Minh emotionally said.
As the Silver medalist with the highest score among 8 students of Giang Vo Secondary School, Nguyen Bao Dung (Class 9A17) is very deserving of the role of team leader. She said that although teachers and parents did not put pressure on her, she still won the medal, which was a great joy.
According to Dung, with the nature of the exam, what candidates need most is confidence and quickness. “There are many students who are good at studying, but because of stress, their test results are not as expected,” Dung shared.
According to Professor Do Duc Thai, the 2015 International Mathematics Team Championship took place in Beijing (China) with the participation of about 40 countries and territories.
The Vietnamese delegation included students from schools in Hanoi, including Giang Vo Secondary School, Cau Giay Secondary School, Trung Vuong Secondary School and 13 primary school students from Hoan Kiem District. The exam took place from November 25 to 28, 2015.
