From September 1, 2024, Viettel will support giving away free 4G phones to customers in difficult circumstances, on the list of customers who need to switch from 2G to 4G of this network. In Nghe An, there will be 7,000 people who will benefit from this policy.

The joy of people receiving 4G support from Viettel

With a business philosophy that is always associated with social responsibility, from September 2024, Viettel will give away free 4G phones to customers who are poor households, near-poor households and customers in difficult commune areas. The program is implemented in 1,700 difficult communes (according to the provisions of Decision 861/QD-TTg dated June 4, 2021) and 50 communes (according to Decision No. 353/QD-TTg dated March 15, 2022 of the Prime Minister).

On September 6, at Xang village, Luc Da commune, Con Cuong district, Viettel Nghe An deployed a point to give and exchange free 4G phones for people. From early afternoon, dozens of people were present at the cultural house to complete the procedures to receive the phones.

As one of the lucky people to benefit from Viettel's 4G phone donation program, Ms. Lo Thi Xin in Xang village, Luc Da commune, Con Cuong district happily shared: "I have had a "brick" phone before, but when I heard the news that I had to change to a 4G phone, I did not have the conditions to buy one because my family was still poor. Luckily, today I received a 4G phone from Viettel, and everyone in the village is very excited."

This is one of Viettel's very practical and humane activities in supporting people in remote communes to have the opportunity to use 4G phones, promptly accessing the digital transformation process, especially when the deadline for stopping 2G supply on September 15 is approaching very soon.

Recently, local authorities in the province have actively cooperated with Viettel to propagate to people about the policy of switching to 4G, however, due to difficult economic conditions, many people still do not have the conditions to switch.

Mr. Ha Minh Tuan - Vice Chairman of Luc Da commune said: "With the characteristics of being a difficult commune, a remote area, mainly ethnic minorities still facing many difficulties, so currently some people still cannot make the switch. Currently, Viettel has a policy of giving free 4G devices to people, this is a very practical and meaningful activity, providing timely support for people to ensure communication, before the 2G wave is cut off".

In Nghe An province, there are nearly 7,000 customers in 76 disadvantaged communes who are eligible to receive Viettel's gift of devices, creating conditions for them to immediately switch to 4G; without interruption of communication when 2G mobile signal stops providing. The total value of Viettel's support for Nghe An people is up to nearly 3 billion VND.

In addition, Viettel also offers free 4G devices to all customers using 2G devices when registering for a long-term package. Customers can choose one of the 4G device lines that Viettel is providing, including: V1/V2; V1S; G1/G2.

To receive a free 4G device, eligible customers need to bring a valid ID card or citizen identification card, a certificate of poor or near-poor household to Viettel stores or 4G device conversion points for support.

Concentrate resources to be ready to stop providing 2G services

On September 15, Vietnam will turn off 2G phone waves. At that time, phones that only use 2G SIMs (2G Only) will not be able to make calls. Currently, Viettel is actively supporting customers and preparing facilities and technical infrastructure before the shutdown to ensure the rights of users as well as the smooth operation of the telecommunications network.

In addition, in Nghe An, from the beginning of 2024 until now, Viettel has also coordinated with local authorities at all levels to promote propaganda and dissemination to help people understand the orientation and policies of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Information and Communications on stopping the provision of 2G services.

At the same time, Viettel also focuses on human resources and machinery at stores and supermarkets to serve customers who want to switch to 4G. At the same time, Viettel also deploys hundreds of mobile device exchange points in residential areas, going to each village to support people in the most convenient way.

In addition, Viettel also cooperates with chain stores such as: Mobile World, Dien May Xanh... to promptly provide 4G devices to people when market demand increases suddenly.

For people, turning off 2G waves will help switch to using higher quality 4G broadband services, while reaching the Government's goal of universalizing smartphones to all people; meeting the needs of digital transformation, developing the digital economy and digital society.
