Vinh Thanh is forever proud to be the place Uncle Ho visited.

He visited his hometown twice, in 1957 and 1961.During a visit to his hometown in 1961, the districtYen Thanhwas honored to welcome him to visit Vinh Thanh Agricultural Cooperative. This is the first high-class agricultural cooperative of the whole commune in Nghe An province, leading in tree planting, livestock raising, irrigation movements with many advanced models and the leading flag in the agricultural cooperative movement in the North.

The homeland engraved his words

According to the elders of Vinh Thanh commune, on that morning, December 10, 1961, from the plane landing at Ru Thap, he stepped down in a faded yellow khaki suit, rubber sandals, his face shining. He returned to the people very simply, talking intimately and affectionately.

When talking to the people of Vinh Thanh commune, in addition to praising the outstanding achievements of the Party Committee and people of Vinh Thanh commune, Uncle Ho pointed out the limitations of the locality and the things that need to be further promoted to practically build socialism, such as irrigation, fertilizer, timely production, and improving agricultural tools.

He praised the tree planting movement, but noted that tree planting must be made a movement for the entire people. He reminded that the Party Committee and people of Vinh Thanh commune need to pay attention to enhancing the role of the management board in the process of building cooperatives.

He kindly reminded the role of the Party Cell in directing to improve production efficiency: “The Party Cell must further strengthen rural solidarity, make all members and farmers excited and enthusiastic to participate in production, practice thrift, develop and consolidate the Cooperative”. He advised the local government to take care of the people’s lives, life must be improved, everyone has enough food and clothes. And Vinh Thanh must improve the way of working and producing to maintain the three movements of building rural cooperatives, irrigation, tree planting and afforestation…”

December 10, 1961 has become a historical milestone, a great pride of the Party Committee and people of Vinh Thanh commune. Vinh Thanh always carried out Uncle Ho's instructions well. Maintaining and promoting the achievements, it is worthy of being one of the typical localities that Uncle Ho visited. During the two wars of destruction in the North by the American imperialists, located between Highway 7 and Highway 33, Vinh Thanh was also one of the enemy's main targets of bombardment.

Under the enemy's bombs and bullets, the people of Vinh Thanh still maintained the spirit of "steady hand on the plow, steady hand on the gun". They both produced and fought, providing human and material support to the South. Vinh Thanh youth enthusiastically joined the army with 1,689 people, 169 of whom joined the youth volunteer force, 7,351 of whom went to the frontline as civilian laborers, including 215 martyrs who heroically sacrificed, 1 People's Armed Forces Hero and many wounded and sick soldiers.

In order to preserve the mementos and memorable images of December 10, 1961, when Uncle Ho visited Vinh Thanh commune, the government and people of Yen Thanh district built the place where Uncle Ho visited into a memorial area displaying documents, artifacts, and images of Uncle Ho and his hometown Vinh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh.

Innovation in the homeland Uncle Ho visited

Over the past 60 years, Uncle Ho's deep sentiments have become a compass and a strong source of motivation for the Party Committee, government and people of Yen Thanh district and Vinh Thanh commune to overcome all difficulties and challenges. They have achieved important and significant achievements in all fields, contributing to promoting the cause of innovation, continuing to implement and follow Uncle Ho's ideology, morality and style.

Starting from a purely agricultural commune with many difficulties of a lowland area, but with determination, exploiting and taking advantage of potentials - advantages, correctly determining development strategies with appropriate roadmaps and steps, Vinh Thanh has made a breakthrough, developed strongly, the economy grew rapidly, each year higher than the previous year.

The appearance of the countryside changes day by day. Up to now, most of the villages and hamlets of Vinh Thanh commune have been reaching the goal of being a green, clean and beautiful model residential area. Vinh Thanh was recognized as a new rural commune in 2017 and is currently continuing to strive to compete in building an advanced new rural commune.

In economic development,Vinh Thanhboldly transforming the structure of crops and livestock, building intensive and specialized rice areas, rice varieties of over 500 hectares, with high economic value, contributing to increasing income. Exploiting the potential for economic development of family farms, up to this point the whole commune has over 42 farms and family farms. Vinh Thanh also focuses on developing small-scale industry and services. Such as attracting investment to build garment factories, wood processing facilities... creating jobs for over 600 local workers.

Vinh Thanh also focuses on poverty reduction for people, with solutions such as: Supporting revolving capital, helping people access preferential loans from the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, the Bank for Social Policies; supporting plants and breeds to develop production...

Following Uncle Ho's teachings and promoting the tradition of learning in their homeland, Vinh Thanh children strive to overcome difficulties and study continuously. Currently, the commune has many people with doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees. Many people have become engineers, doctors, journalists and teachers. The number of students passing the entrance exams to universities and colleges is increasing. Kindergartens and primary schools have met national standards, while secondary schools are striving to meet national standards in 2021.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung - Chairman of Vinh Thanh Commune People's Committee said: Following Uncle Ho's teachings, in the coming years, the Party Committee and people of Vinh Thanh will continue to strive to promote economic restructuring, towards increasing the value of industrial production, construction, trade, services and labor export.

Over the past 60 years, when Uncle Ho visited Yen Thanh rice fields, the rural appearance, economic life, culture and spirit of the people in the "rice fields" have been increasingly improved. The memories and joy of the day Uncle Ho visited are still intact with the people of Yen Thanh. His advice from years ago will forever be the motivation for the Party Committee and people of Yen Thanh to join hands to build their homeland to become increasingly prosperous.
