Raising fattened buffaloes for commercial purposes brings in an income of over 600 million VND/year for Mr. Danh's family in Quynh Tam - Quynh Luu. |
From the wild mountainous land, Mr. Chu Van Danh in the mountainous commune of Quynh Tam (Quynh Luu) boldly invested in building a fattening buffalo farm. This model generates an income of 500-600 million VND/year.
With available food sources and spacious land, in 2015, Mr. Danh decided to invest in building a commercial buffalo farm. With 6 hectares of land, he rented bulldozers and invested 500 million VND to build a barn. In the first batch, he bought 50 buffaloes from some local people about 2-3 years old to raise; after 2 months of fattening, the herd of buffaloes developed healthily and grew quickly. When selling, he earned more than 350 million VND in profit. Realizing that commercial buffalo farming developed sustainably and had stable output, he increased the herd from 50 to 150 buffaloes/batch.
Mr. Danh shared: “Fattling buffaloes requires attention to choosing breeding stock and care techniques. In addition, proactively stocking food in winter, along with ensuring hygiene in barns, drinking water and cold protection for buffaloes; it is necessary to pay attention to vaccination and deworming on a regular basis. Buffaloes are best fattened at around 24 months of age because at this time the buffaloes grow quickly, their teeth are strong, so their ability to digest, absorb food and accumulate meat is quite high…”.

Growing grass to fatten buffaloes is practiced by many families, increasing income. |
With the main food source being milkweed and finely ground corn mixed together, within just 2 months, the buffalo herd had fattened up and was exported to China.
Every year, Mr. Danh's farm raises 5-6 batches; each batch has 150 pigs, an average of 850-900 pigs/year. After 2 months of raising, each pig costs from 43-45 million/pig, minus expenses, the profit is 5-7 million/pig. Thus, his family earns a profit of 500-600 million VND/year.
To develop commercial buffalo farming, Mr. Danh's farm grows 2.5 hectares of milkweed; at the same time, he hires 4 workers with a salary of 3-4 million VND/month. Currently, many families have cooperated with Mr. Danh to fatten buffaloes, increasing their family income. Quynh Tam commune alone currently has over 1,200 buffaloes raised commercially.
