Husband and wife drowned while visiting relatives
The water of Ky Cung river overflowed the underground bridge to the middle of the motorbike wheel, but Mr. Nhu and his wife still drove through and had an accident.
At noon on January 30, Mr. Mung Van Nhu (38 years old) took his wife, Ms. Hoang Thi Hien (40 years old, resident of Tan Thanh commune, Cao Loc, Lang Son) to the Provincial General Hospital to visit relatives. When they reached the underground bridge in Lang Son city, they saw the Ky Cung river overflowing over the bridge, reaching over half of the motorbike wheel. Some people turned their motorbikes to go another way, but Mr. Nhu and his wife still rushed across.

The strong current swept away the motorbike and its two occupants. Locals shouted for help, but it was too late. Authorities found the husband’s body about 500 meters from the accident site and are searching for the wife’s body.
“The husband, who knew how to swim, tried to pull and lift his wife to bring her to shore, but the current was so strong that they both drowned,” said a witness.
Mr. Nhu and Ms. Hien are farmers and have three children. The two older children are married and the youngest is in 6th grade.
