US heavy weapons 'surround' North Korea
The US has deployed many warships, aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines along with all kinds of fighter planes, bombers, stealth planes, and helicopters to positions around North Korea.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Stetham, USS Mustin and the supercarrier USS Ronald Reagan participated in joint naval exercises with South Korean ships as part of the MCSOFEX exercise, the commander of the US Navy's 7th Fleet said.
The five-day naval exercise between the two countries will end on October 20 in both the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, Yonhap reported.

A unit of the US special forces is also on board the nuclear submarine currently in the Korean Peninsula, Yonhap quoted a South Korean defense source as saying. Earlier, the nuclear submarine USS Michigan docked at Busan port on October 13.
The joint exercise also involved F-15K, FA-18 and A-10 fighter jets as well as AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, Lynx and AW-159 Wild Cat helicopters. The US also deployed JSTARS aircraft to monitor North Korean ground and naval forces.
At the same time, the US also sent a B-1B Lancer strategic aircraft, F-22 stealth fighter jets and many other defense assets to Seoul to participate in an air show taking place this week.

"An estimated 200 US military personnel will participate in the 2017 International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX), which will run from October 17 to 22 at Seoul K-16 Airport," the air force said in a statement.
Among the US aircraft present at the biennial event are the F-22 Raptor, B-1B Lancer, A-10 Thunderbolt II, C-17 Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules, KC-135 Stratotanker, E-3 Sentry, U-2 Dragon Lady and RQ-4 Global Hawk. In addition, the fifth-generation fighter F-35A Lightning II, P-8A Poseidon and CH-47F Chinook are also present.
