(Baonghean.vn) - The ship with registration number NA93018 TS carrying 10 fishermen from Quynh Luu district was fishing in the shared fishing area between Vietnam and China when it unfortunately broke its shaft and lost the ability to maneuver, so it had to call for help.

At 14:30 on January 18, 2018, rescue ship SAR 273 brought 10 crew members and fishing boat NA 93018 TS safely to Cua Lo port (Cua Lo town).

Previously, on January 16, 2018, fishing boat NA 93018 TS, captained by Tran Van Ha (35 years old, residing in Son Hai commune, Quynh Luu district), was exploiting seafood in the common fishing area between Vietnam and China when the shaft broke and the boat lost its ability to maneuver. Meanwhile, the weather was bad, with big waves and strong winds of level 5 to level 6. At that time, there were 10 fishermen on board, all from Quynh Luu district.

The location of the ship accident is in the common fishing area between Vietnam and China, about 90 nautical miles northeast of Hon Me (Thanh Hoa).

The fishermen tried to repair the ship themselves, but were unable to due to lack of spare parts. The ship was uncontrollable and disoriented, causing the fishermen on board to lose their morale and panic.

Mr. Ha directly contacted the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (under the Vietnam Maritime Administration) to call for urgent help.

After receiving the information, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center immediately deployed remote technical consultation and support to guide the ship to fix the problem, prevent water from entering the ship and causing it to sink, and at the same time alerted the specialized rescue ship SAR 273 operating in the neighboring sea area to be ready to respond.

Realizing that the situation was very serious, the crew members' lives were potentially in serious danger, implementing the drastic direction of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, the Ministry of Transport, the Vietnam Maritime Administration, and the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center ordered the specialized search and rescue ship SAR 273 to head towards the fishing boat to quickly deploy rescue operations.

In addition, the Center continuously maintains contact with the distressed ship to reassure the crew and provide instructions on life-sustaining measures in case of an emergency.
