WHO supports Vietnam's health sector plan

WHO and other international organizations are committed to working together to promote and improve Vietnam's health system in all areas.

Dr. Graham Harrison - Acting Chief Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam said that the theme of this year's World Health Day is "Combating Antimicrobial Resistance". Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi.

According to Mr. Graham Harrison, drug resistance is caused by many factors, but first of all by the incorrect and unreasonable use of antimicrobial drugs and the consequence is that a microorganism can cause genetic mutations.

Policy makers, health professionals, prescribers, patients, pharmacists and the pharmaceutical industry… all have a responsibility to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Regarding the 5-year plan (2011-2015) of the Vietnamese health sector in strengthening and perfecting the health network... WHO commits to strengthening and supporting the identified areas of the Vietnamese health sector. WHO as well as other international organizations commit to cooperate with the Vietnamese Government to promote further development and improve the health system in all areas.
