Hung Chan Commune rises from history and tradition

Along with a glorious historical tradition and a long tradition of development, Hung Chan commune also has diverse natural conditions of forests, land and precious medicinal herbs, favorable for developing forestry economy, raising large livestock and endemic agricultural products.

Natural conditions

Hung Chan is a mountainous commune in the Northwest of Nghe An province, 145 km from Vinh city, with a natural area of ​​351.87 km2.2. Hung Chan commune was established on the basis of merging 3 communes of the old Quy Chau district: Chau Phong commune, Chau Hoan commune and Dien Lam commune. Currently, the whole commune has 17 villages. Administrative boundaries of the commune: East borders Chau Hong commune, South borders Binh Chuan and Nga My communes, West borders Muong Quang commune, North borders Chau Tien commune and Quy Chau commune.

Hung Chan is a valley located in the ancient continental shelf, with volcanic activity, so the terrain is relatively complex, surrounded by many high mountains, with relatively large slopes. The terrain has many waves from the Northwest to the Southeast, streams flow into the Hieu River confluence in Quy Chau commune.

Hung Chan is located in the Northern Hemisphere tropical zone, Southeast Asian monsoon zone, North Central climate sub-zone with common characteristics of tropical monsoon, cold and foggy winter, with a year-round cool micro-climate (old Dien Lam area). Summer is relatively hot, rainy and often has flash floods, landslides at some places. However, diverse natural conditions give Hung Chan rich resources of forests, land and precious medicinal herbs, favorable for developing forestry economy, raising large livestock and endemic agricultural products such as Quy duck, black pig, cool fish...

History and tradition

Hung Chan is a long-standing residential area of ​​ethnic minorities, mainly the Thai ethnic group. The name Hung Chan commune was introduced after the August Revolution in 1945, and existed until 1961, after which it was divided into new communes. The old Hung Chan commune included the entire area of ​​Chau Hong commune and the present Hung Chan commune. The name Hung Chan comes from the story of Tuong Chan, whose real name is Hun Luong Chan, a native of Tong village (today's Ban village), a talented leader of the Thai ethnic group, who made great contributions in suppressing the Xa rebels and protecting the Muong village. He was also an important figure, along with Doc Thiet, who actively participated in the Can Vuong movement against the French in the mountainous areas of Thanh - Nghe.

To remember his merits, the people named this land Hung Chan (hung: Thai word means bright), meaning the land has bright conditions thanks to the merits of Hun Luong Chan.

Through the history of exploration, settlement and protection of the homeland, the people of Hung Chan commune have formed ancient Thai villages with a culture rich in identity, with many customs, practices and festivals associated with spiritual life and agricultural production methods.

During the two resistance wars against France and the US, the people of Hung Chan commune and the people of Quy Chau district (old) contributed manpower and resources, both producing and fighting to protect their homeland, contributing to the overall victory of the nation. In 1965, pilot Tran Hanh, after shooting down an American plane in the sky of Ham Rong, made an emergency landing in Tam village field and was rescued by the locals. Currently, a Victory Monument has been erected here. During the renovation period, the Party Committee, government and people of Hung Chan commune continued to promote the tradition of solidarity, diligence, overcoming difficulties, and striving to build their homeland to develop more and more.

Population, culture - society

The total population of Hung Chan commune is 12,601 people, including 2,766 households distributed in 17 villages, of which the Thai ethnic group accounts for over 97%. People mainly live by growing rice, corn, raising buffalo, cows, pigs, chickens, associated with forest protection and development. The cultural and spiritual life of the people of Hung Chan commune is very rich, expressed through customs, practices, beliefs, traditional festivals, folk songs, folk dances such as xoe dance, khen dance, khen be blowing, ke luong, xuoi, nhuon, lam melodies... These are unique values, contributing to the cultural identity of this land.

In recent years, Hung Chan commune has paid attention to developing education, health care and cultural and social fields. The whole commune has 8 schools (3 kindergartens, 3 primary schools, 2 secondary schools), of which 6 schools meet national standards level 1, with 3/3 medical stations meeting standards. Facilities serving teaching and learning have been invested in; school campuses are increasingly spacious, green, clean, beautiful, safe and friendly; the quality of education and the quality of teachers are increasingly improved. Facilities and equipment at medical stations have been upgraded, newly invested, and met national standards on health. Preventive medicine, disease prevention and target health programs have been implemented synchronously and effectively. Primary health care for the people has been given attention.

Economic development and new rural construction

The economy of Hung Chan commune currently relies mainly on agriculture, forestry and livestock. In the past term, the agricultural sector has achieved quite comprehensive results, in which cultivation and livestock are still stable and play a leading role, along with good implementation of forest management, protection and development, with a total natural forest area of ​​16,825 ha; planted forest area of ​​4,548.9 ha. In addition, people combine exploitation of non-timber forest products, develop herds of buffaloes, Quy ducks, black pigs, brocade weaving... Up to now, in the commune there is 1 cooperative, 5 farms, 12 households, 6 livestock models with quite good economic efficiency. The construction and development of infrastructure in the past term has made a breakthrough, many key projects and works have been invested in, creating a premise for socio-economic development, ensuring the implementation of national defense and security tasks.

Taking advantage of the provincial level's attention in investing in the construction of socio-economic infrastructure in the area such as Vai Chon Bridge, Chau Phong Ethnic Minority Secondary School... Hung Chan Commune is also gradually implementing national target programs, focusing on developing transport infrastructure, improving cultural life, sustainable poverty reduction, improving the environment and building a strong political system.

Defense and security

The whole commune has focused on implementing well the contents of building a comprehensively strong and secure base, and training in national defense and security knowledge for the subjects. Organizing well combat drills in the area of ​​​​defense, forest fire prevention and fighting. Doing well the work of recruiting, assigning troops, building and mobilizing reserve forces for training, drills, checking mobilization readiness, combat readiness and military rear policies. 100% of residential areas in the commune, agencies, units and schools meet safety standards for security and order; communes before the merger achieved comprehensively strong units in national defense and security.
