Drum making is one of the traditional occupations that people in Xuan Dong hamlet, Nghi Duc commune still maintain. Every year, households produce and repair hundreds of drums. The festival drums are associated with the Xuan Dong craft village brand, with record sizes in the works (drum surface area from 1.0 m x 1.3 m or 1.6 m x 2.4 m or more). Visitors come to see the samples to order some drum products. According to the drum makers of Nghi Duc commune, to have a quality and beautiful drum product, cowhide must be ordered in advance and only in certain areas; the drum body is mainly made of jackfruit wood and must be carefully processed to ensure it does not warp. Over the past 5 years, Nghi Duc commune residents have borrowed nearly 10 billion VND from banks and credit institutions to develop secondary industries and build farms and livestock farms. Currently, the commune has about 200 livestock and crop farming models, each model brings in an average profit of 50-70 million VND/year. Thanks to the strong development of secondary industries and livestock farming, the income of Nghi Duc residents has improved significantly, from 13 million VND/person in 2012 to 30 million VND/person in 2017 and the commune is striving to reach 35 million VND/person by 2010.
