CNN quoted Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne's statement on Monday (August 7) saying that the country's navy found the wreckage of the Osprey MV-22 propeller aircraft, belonging to the US Marine Corps, which crashed on August 5.
According to Ms. Payne, the Royal Australian Navy survey ship Melville was mobilized to Shoalwater Bay, near the city of Rockhampton, north Queensland, and located the US MV-22 aircraft on the seabed.
A large-scale search is underway after a US military plane crashed off the coast of Australia, leaving at least two soldiers missing.
The female minister added that the navy will use a remote-controlled vehicle to check before divers approach the wreckage to carry out the rescue mission.
Previously, the US Marine Corps stationed in Japan announced that the MV-22 aircraft crashed on August 5 while participating in the Talisman Saber exercise between the US and Australia off Shoalwater Bay.
Twenty-three of the 26 US soldiers on board were rescued, with three victims still unaccounted for, the US military reported.
