On the morning of June 9, Colonel Nguyen Duc Dung (Chief of Staff and Spokesperson of Quang Nam Provincial Police) said that all passengers on the burnt sleeper bus were arranged to be picked up by another bus to continue the journey from Da Nang to Dak Nong.

“No passengers were injured, but all their luggage was burned. After taking their statements, the police handed them over to the bus company to pick them up,” said Colonel Dung.

According to the spokesman of Quang Nam Provincial Police, the burnt car has been brought to the Que Son District Police headquarters. “This afternoon, the car owner will come to work with the police. Tomorrow morning, we will invite the Institute of Criminal Science (Ministry of Public Security) to participate in the investigation and determine the cause of the fire. All assumptions such as electrical short circuit or technical failure are now subjective and unfounded,” said Colonel Dung.

He added that because the distance to the scene of the fire was too far, taking more than half an hour to drive, when more than 50 police officers and many fire trucks arrived, the passenger car was almost burned to the ground.

Previously, at around 6:20 p.m. on June 8, a sleeper bus with a Da Nang license plate of Quoc Dat, driven by Nguyen Quy (34 years old), was carrying 35 people on the Da Nang - Dak Nong route. When reaching National Highway 1A, passing through Que Phu Commune (Que Son District, Quang Nam), the bus suddenly caught fire.

"The car was running when suddenly there was a burning smell coming from the back, many people screamed. The driver immediately stopped and opened the door for the passengers to escape. When the last person got off, the fire had spread throughout the car, burning fiercely," said passenger Le Van Khanh, adding that in the emergency everyone was worried about their lives and left their luggage behind.

Recently, many sleeper buses have suddenly caught fire. At around 3am on June 6, a bus passing through Phuoc Thai commune, Long Thanh district (Dong Nai) suddenly exploded and caught fire.

More than 30 passengers frantically tried to escape before the fire engulfed the entire bus. The fire was extinguished when firefighters arrived. There were no casualties, but the entire bus and many passengers' luggage were burned down.
