Oversized and overloaded vehicles destroy residential roads

According to the reporter's records in the last days of September, the central route running through the People's Committee of Thanh Mai commune, connecting National Highway 46C (formerly Provincial Road 533) and Ho Chi Minh trail, has a large volume of traffic and is beingdegradedThe 7km long road has many potholes, making it difficult for local people to travel.

Mr. Diem, a resident of Thanh Mai commune, said: "I go to work on this road every day. The road surface has been cracked and eroded for nearly 2 years now. On rainy days, potholes trap road users. On sunny days, there is a lot of dust and smoke. In fact, there have been many accidents on this road."

Not only Mr. Diem butThanh Ma commune peoplei am also very upset because the most important road passing through the commune is increasingly damaged. According to people's reflection, the main cause of the road deterioration is due to overloaded trucks carrying raw materials running day and night but not being checked and handled promptly.

Thanh Mai commune residents share:Heavy duty vehiclesTrucks carrying soil, rocks, sand, wood, etc. have appeared a lot in the past year. From 3-4 am, we can hear the sound of vehicles running. Some trucks have been extended and not covered with tarpaulins, so the materials are scattered on the road, obstructing pedestrians. Although recently the traffic police have set up checkpoints, this situation has not improved.

According to the leader of Thanh Mai Commune People's Committee, the road was started in 2009 and was not handed over for use until 2015. Due to public investment cuts and slow capital allocation, it was not completed until 2015. In the past 2 years, there has been a situationoversized and overloaded vehiclesregularly circulate, in which besides Nghe An vehicles, there are also some vehicles with Ha Tinh province license plates. In fact, the functional forces of the commune have also been deployed many times to remind and check the heavy vehicles, however, due to lack of authority, the commune had to petition the superiors to coordinate the handling.

Due to the increasingly degraded road condition, people living on both sides of the road have to spray water and cover their household items to prevent dust from flying into their homes when it is sunny. People in Thanh Mai commune as well as neighboring communes such as Thanh Giang, Thanh Tung, Thanh Xuan, etc. also limit traveling on this road when it rains because it is very slippery and prone to accidents.

The problem of degraded roads is always a concern for the locality because this is a vital route. At the meetings with voters, people were also very upset and made many recommendations on this issue; we all accepted it with an open mind, however, upgrading, repairing or handling violating vehicles is beyond the authority of the commune, so we have submitted a petition to the Thanh Chuong District People's Committee for handling. For now, the local government and people have joined hands to temporarily repair the severely damaged areas to ensure smooth traffic, especially during this rainy and stormy season.
