The mother and daughter's family is poor and they cannot afford a bicycle to go to school. The school is nearly 2 km from home, soEvery day Duong has to hitchhike to school with a friend. Although it is difficult and tiring, Duong is rarely seen walking slowly or absent from school.
In addition to studying in class, Duong found work to help his mother or borrowed books from friends to read and study more. With that effort, Duong achieved good results throughout all his years of primary school.

Representatives of the Dien Chau District Association for the Promotion of Education came to encourage and inquire about Tran Hai Duong's studies. |
It seemed that the difficult but peaceful life of Duong and her mother would continue like that, but 3 months ago, disaster struck when Duong's mother suddenly passed away.when he was just 47 years old. His mother passed away without leaving any words, making Duong an orphan. He didn't know where his grandparents were, and both his grandparents had passed away, so his uncle (mother's younger brother) was Duong's only support.
Every day, Duong stays and eats with his uncle's family, but at night he returns home to look after the house and burn incense for his mother. Because he works as a construction worker and often travels far away for work and his siblings are still young, in addition to taking care of himself, Duong also takes his siblings to school and helps his uncle clean the house and yard.

Ms. Vo Thi Nga prepares Duong to go to school. |
Ms. Vo Thi Nga - Duong's mother confided: sometimes seeing her child playing happily makes me feel somewhat reassured, but when the afternoon comes, taking her home, seeing the deserted house and her child's absent-minded eyes makes everyone feel heartbroken. For now, taking care of her like this is okay, but in the long run, we really don't know what will happen...
Although he adopted Duong, his uncle's circumstances were difficult. Both his wife and he were farmers, had low incomes, and had many children, so life was quite difficult. Previously, due to poor health, Duong's mother worked as a rice cake maker every day, earning just enough to support the two of them. When she passed away, she did not have any valuable assets left behind. Currently, Duong has not received orphan benefits, so it is really difficult.

In addition to school hours, Duong also helps his uncle with chores around the house. |
Despite the difficulties, Duong has strived to excel and achieved good results in his studies, so he has been recognized by the school and teachers. In addition to giving rewards for achievements at the end of the school year, when there are gifts for poor children who have overcome difficulties, the school always gives priority attention to support Duong.
Ms. Vo Thi Nga, who is the guardian of Duong, hopes that the local government will create conditions for her to soon enjoy orphan status; at the same time, she hopes that the school, the community and philanthropists will pay attention, support and accompany the foster family so that Duong can continue to go to school and raise her to grow up, mature and become a useful person for society.
