Punishment for illegal sand dredging boats on Lam River

(Baonghean.vn) - Thanh Giang Commune Police (Thanh Chuong District) have just discovered and fined 4 sand dredging boats that illegally dredged sand on Lam River.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - Head of Thanh Giang Commune Police said that in the early morning of March 6, while on patrol, the security team discovered 4 boats dredging sand on a section of the river managed by the locality and outside the licensed area.

Many sand and gravel suction boats brazenly suck sand and gravel right at the foot of Lam River bank, passing through Thanh Giang commune.

The commune police mobilized forces to surround and arrest the above boat crews and at the same time decided to administratively fine them 3,000,000 VND.

According to Mr. Manh, these boats come from Nam Dan Town and regularly illegally mine sand in the Lam River area, passing through Lam Dinh hamlet, Thanh Giang commune.

(Baonghean.vn) - According to local residents, on October 16, many sand-dredging boats were operating day and night on the Lam River, passing through the communes of Thanh Long, Thanh Ha, Thanh Giang, and Thanh Lam (Thanh Chuong). Thanh Giang and Thanh Ha are the two communes most seriously affected.

In the coming time, Thanh Giang Commune Police will continue to direct security teams to inspect and handle illegal sand mining activities on Lam River to protect environmental resources and agricultural land for local people.
