Over the past few weeks, public opinion in Thailand has been upset about Facebook's privacy policy after a critic of the military government was arrested on April 27, with evidence of Facebook conversations criticizing the government.

On May 4, citing violations of local laws, Facebook also closed an account in Thailand that posted satirical content about the country's Royal Family.

In messages posted on their personal Facebook pages before closing their accounts, many scholars and celebrities in Thailand wrote that they were taking such actions because Facebook had violated their privacy and freedom of expression, as the American company had cooperated with the military government's censorship policies.

These people also called on the Thai online community to join the movement to boycott Facebook and switch to using other social networks./.
