Promoting investment linkage in planting large timber forests in the North Central region
On the morning of October 28, in Vinh City, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An coordinated to organize the Conference "Promoting investment linkage in planting large timber forests with sustainable forest management certification between forest owners and wood processing enterprises planting production forests in the North Central region".

The North Central region has 105,000 hectares of large timber forests.
According to the report of the Forestry Department, the North Central region has nearly 1 million hectares of planted forests, including large timber forests. 234,847 hectares. The output of timber exploitation from planted forests increased rapidly. In 2018, the output of raw wood exploited from concentrated planted forests was 18.5 million m3by 2023 it has increased to 21.5 million m3, meeting over 50% of the raw material demand for processing and exporting wood products. Currently, the North Central region has nearly 105,000 hectares of forest certified for sustainable forest management, accounting for nearly 20.4% of the certified forest area nationwide.
The North Central provinces have 691 wood and forestry processing establishments and enterprises, accounting for 11.1% of the total number of enterprises in the country, mainly distributed in 3 provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Quang Binh.
The average export value of wood and wood products in the 2022-2024 period of the North Central provinces is estimated to reach 806 million USD/year. The North Central provinces have built 13 cooperation models, linking businesses with households to invest in planting large timber forests, with Sustainable Forest Management Certificates, with an area granted Sustainable Forest Management Certificates of 32,590 hectares, accounting for nearly 42.3% of the large timber forest area.
Although the North Central region ranks second in the country in attracting businesses to cooperate and link with forest owners to invest in planting large timber forests, with Sustainable Forest Management Certificates. Nghe An has over 548,423 hectares of production forest, 204,000 hectares of planted forest, and 32,000 hectares of large timber forest. However, there are still limitations and a lack of connection between forest owners and enterprises. Through this conference, Nghe An hopes that the participating parties will discuss and propose solutions to promote the connection between forest owners and processing enterprises, thereby building a sustainable forestry value chain.
At the conference, Mr. Trieu Van Luc - Deputy Director of the Forestry Department raised upcoming solutions to develop large timber forests: Relevant sectors continue to improve mechanisms and policies, at the same time, effectively implement support policies, create conditions, attract businesses and forest owners to participate in cooperation, link investment in planting large timber forests, with Sustainable Forest Management Certificate.
According to Mr. Trieu Van Luc, localities promptly evaluate and summarize effective cooperation and investment models in planting large timber forests with Sustainable Forest Management Certificates, as a basis for replication.
Based on land use planning and national forestry planning, to determine land funds for the development of industrial clusters, industrial zones, land funds for new forest planting, replanting production forests; large timber forest development areas, Sustainable Forest Management Certificates, attracting businesses to cooperate and link investment and business.
Do a good job of propaganda and raise awareness among people and businesses about the trend and sustainable effectiveness of cooperation and investment linkage in the chain in forestry production.
Promote the organization of conferences, exhibitions, etc. to promote products and encourage economic sectors to participate in cooperation and investment in planting large timber forests with sustainable forest management certificates associated with processing and consumption markets.
At the same time, the Forestry Department requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the North Central provinces to review and identify land funds for replanting large timber forests, creating favorable conditions for businesses to organize cooperation and link investment in planting large timber forests.
Advise the Provincial People's Committee to develop and effectively implement the Project on developing a sustainable and effective wood processing industry for the period 2021-2030 and arrange local budgets for activities to support large timber plantation; grant forest certificates, build forestry roads according to regulations on investment in forest protection and development.
Organize propaganda for people and businesses to limit exploitation of young forests, conduct large timber forest business, implement Sustainable Forest Management Certification to protect the ecological environment, and create large sources of wood materials.
