1,000 unexploded shells found in garbage near residential area

Ammunition including 70mm rockets, 122mm cannons, 120mm mortars, M79s... were found mixed with household waste in Lao Bao town (Quang Tri).

On the morning of March 15, people working in the fields discovered many sacks containing bullets at a household garbage dump in the Cong Troi area, Trung Chin hamlet (Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa, Quang Tri) and reported it to the authorities.

Upon receiving the information, the Mobile Bomb and Mine Clearance Team of the Vietnam Peace Tree arrived, processed and counted 1,067 shells of various types, including 70 mm rockets, 122 mm artillery, 120 mm mortars, M79 shells, etc.All of these warheads were unexploded and are highly lethal, especially if discarded near residential areas.

Authorities initially determined that the ammunition may have been discarded by local war scrap dealers because they could not be sold.

Currently, all warheads are safely transported to the assembly point awaiting processing.
