10 best cars for 2018

Annual ranking ofConsumer Reports(CR) is like the "Best Choice" list - a trusted "advisor" for many Americans when buying a car. The Top 10 were announced on February 22.

To be included in CR’s rankings, a vehicle must demonstrate exceptional capabilities. The selected product must “survive” the magazine’s rigorous testing regime, demonstrating reliability, safety and customer satisfaction.

Toyota outshines all other competitors with four vehicles in the Top 10. General Motors' Chevrolet brand has two. The Chevrolet Impala, Subaru Forester, and Toyota Highlander are the three models from 2017 that are staying for another "term."

1. Compact car: Toyota Corolla

Popular for its high reliability and superior quality compared to the segment. In addition, CR highly appreciates the small sedan for its spacious interior, solid performance, and fuel consumption of 7.35 liters/100 km.The selling price in the US is 20,700 USD.

2. Small green car: Chevrolet Bolt

CR took the Bolt to its test track and on public roads. "With the ability to reach 250 mph on a single charge, the Bolt is a good choice for people who may not have considered electric cars before," said CR representative Jake Fisher. The price in the US is $38,500.

3. Compact luxury car: Audi A4

"The A4 shines with sportiness, luxury and elegance in a competitive segment," CR wrote. In addition, the German luxury car also makes drivers feel satisfied every time they get behind the wheel. The price in the US is $48,900.

4. Midsize Car: Toyota Camry

CR praised the Camry for the Japanese car's overall performance: new style and upgraded operating mode. The American magazine was especially impressed by the 4-cylinder sedan with a modest fuel consumption of 7.35 liters / 100 km and the Camry Hybrid with 5 liters / 100 km. Prices in the US range from 26,400 to 29,000 USD.

5. Large car: Chevrolet Impala

The Impala is a gem among full-size cars, proving itself with a luxury-car driving experience. CR’s team was also impressed by the Impala’s spacious cabin, good soundproofing, and ample equipment. The price in the US is $39,100.

6. Compact SUV: Subaru Forester

CR's review of the Forester says the SUV is a practical SUV with a smart technology package, fuel economy, spacious cabin, good visibility and outstanding reliability. The price in the US is $27,200.

7. Compact luxury SUV: BMW X3

The luxury SUV combines driving experience, comfort, new technology and convenience. "The sporty and sharp performance encourages drivers to take to winding roads," the magazine wrote. The X3 is priced in the US at $53,800.

8. Midsize SUV: Toyota Highlander

The Highlander won over CR’s team with its performance, fuel economy, and reliability. Plus, the three-row SUV seats up to eight people while remaining compact enough to easily park. Prices range from $41,200 to $50,900 in the U.S.

9. Minivan: Toyota Sienna

In this segment, the Sienna offers the best overall package with a comfortable ride, a powerful powertrain, and impressive fuel economy. The cabin is spacious with convenient folding seats and can accommodate up to 8 people. Price in the US: 38,500 USD.

10. Full-size pickup: Ford F-150

The best-selling car in the US is considered an impressive "workhorse". The lightweight design and the efficient yet fuel-efficient turbocharged 6-cylinder engine are the highlights. The selling price in the US is 52,600 USD.
