10 countries with the fastest internet speed in the world

The top countries have Internet speeds 4.5 times faster than the world average and far faster than the Internet speed in Vietnam.

According to Akamai's assessment in the fourth quarter of 2015, South Korea is the country with the highest average internet speed in the world, reaching 26.7 Mbps. This result increased 30% compared to the same period last quarter and developed 20% compared to last year. South Korea has held this position for many years and has up to 63% of the population using internet speeds of more than 15 Mbps.

Next in line is Sweden with an average internet speed of 19.1 Mbps, followed by Norway with 18.8 Mbps. These two countries have constantly innovated infrastructure, thanks to which network speeds increased by 30% and 65% respectively compared to the same period last year.

Having been ranked second many times, however in the latest assessment Japan has dropped to fourth place. The average internet speed in this country reached 17.4 Mbps, an increase of 15% compared to the fourth quarter of 2014.

The remaining names in the top 10 countries with high average internet speeds include the Netherlands (17 Mbps), Hong Kong (16.8 Mbps), Latvia (16.7 Mbps), Switzerland (16.7 Mbps), Finland (16.6 Mbps) and Denmark (16.1 Mbps).

It is noteworthy that the US, considered the world's leading technological power, has an average Internet speed of 14.2 Mbps and ranks 14th.

The average Internet connection speed in Vietnam in the fourth quarter of 2015 was 3.8 Mbps, ranking 95th. Meanwhile, the average global Internet speed was 5.6 Mbps, about 1.5 times faster than Vietnam. Our country's mobile network connection is also among the slowest in Asia, reaching 1.8 Mbps.
