17 people died in traffic accidents on New Year's Eve

Statistics from the Traffic Police Department show that on January 27 (the 30th day of Tet), there were 32 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 17 people and injuring 44 people.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Thai - Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee: most of the accidents and casualties occurred on the road with 31 cases, killing 16 people and injuring 44 people. There was 1 accident on the railway, killing 1 person.

On the last day of the old year, traffic police nationwide inspected and handled 2,346 cases of traffic safety violations, paid the State Treasury 1 billion 18 million VND, temporarily detained 535 vehicles, and revoked 140 driving licenses.

Mr. Thai also said that on January 27, there were over 30 calls from people to the hotline of the National Traffic Safety Committee. The content of the calls mostly reflected the situation of arbitrary ticket price increases, overcrowding, and speeding.
