Two self-nominated candidates, Mr. Le Nguyen Minh Quang (voting rate was 62.74%) and Mr. Tran Quang Thang, were elected to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.

On the morning of May 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee announced the election results of the City People's Council delegates for the 2016-2021 term.
According to the vote counting results, Ho Chi Minh City has elected enough 30 deputies to the 14th National Assembly and 105 deputies to the city-level People's Council for the 2016-2021 term.
Of which, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the City People's Committee, had the highest percentage of votes, 78.75%; 2 self-nominated candidates were elected as City People's Council delegates, Mr. Le Nguyen Minh Quang (voting percentage was 62.74%) and Mr. Tran Quang Thang (voting percentage was 66.92%).
However, the election results for People's Council delegates at ward, commune and town levels still lack 37 delegates, but because each unit only lacks one delegate and has elected more than 2/3 of the required number of delegates, there is no need for additional elections.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council, Chairwoman of the Election Committee of Ho Chi Minh City said: "City residents are very aware of their civil rights. The fact that people vote themselves shows their trust in the delegates, and also the right to choose the most worthy person to represent the people.
