20 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking

(Baonghean.vn)- Although Dang Van Han claimed that he committed the crime of not reporting a crime, based on the investigation results and the statements of the people involved, the panel of judges determined that prosecuting the defendant for illegally transporting drugs was the right person and the right crime.

On August 12, Nghe An Provincial People's Court held the first instance trial of the case of illegal drug transportation against Dang Van Han (born 1994), residing in Kim Dong district, Hung Yen province.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, Nguyen Van Tiem (born 1976), residing in Kim Dong district, Hung Yen province, was the main supplier of crystal meth to a number of individuals in Hung Nguyen district (Nghe An).

On March 22, 2015, Tiem told Han to meet a man named Ngu to receive crystal meth for Tiem. Han took a bus to Luong Yen bus station, met a man named Ngu, received the "goods" and, following Tiem's ​​instructions, brought it to Dong Van overpass (Ha Nam) to deliver to Cao Thi Tuyet Nhung (born 1993, residing in Ha Nam).

Han hired a taxi and called Nguyen Viet Hung to go with her to meet Nhung. After dinner, Han went to wash her hair and told Hung to give Nhung the plastic bag on the back seat of the taxi. Following Tiem's ​​instructions, Hung rented a motel room in Duy Tien district (Ha Nam province) for Nhung to stay.

A moment later, Tiem and some other people went to the motel room that Nhung was renting to trade crystal meth, but were caught red-handed by the Hung Nguyen District Police (Nghe An). When they saw Tiem, Nhung, and Hung being arrested, Dang Van Han took a taxi away from the scene and fled.

Nghe An Provincial Police issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Dang Van Han. The case was brought to trial by Nghe An Provincial People's Court. Tiem, Nhung, and Hung were sentenced to prison for illegally buying, selling, and transporting nearly 1,000 grams of crystal meth.

The investigation agency decided to separate Dang Van Han's actions into a separate case, and will try him later when he is arrested.

On June 16, 2016, Dang Van Han was arrested. In his self-declaration at the Khuong Trung Ward Police Station (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi - where Han was arrested), Dang Van Han stated that he transported drugs for Tiem in March 2015.

At the trial, Dang Van Han did not admit to the act of illegally transporting drugs as charged in the indictment. Han said he did not know what the gift package he took from Ngu under Tiem's ​​instructions was. Only when he "saw Nhung and Hung's unclear attitude" did Han know it was crystal meth. Therefore, Han said he only committed the crime of failing to report a crime, not the crime of illegally transporting drugs.

The defendant's defense attorney also argued that prosecuting Dang Van Han for illegally transporting drugs based solely on the statements of Tiem, Nhung, and Hung was unfounded.

For illegally transporting drugs, Dang Van Han was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The panel of judges determined: based on the documents, records, evidence collected during the investigation and the statements of the people involved, Han's self-declaration at the time of his arrest, the prosecution of Dang Van Han for illegal transportation of drugs by the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province was not unjust, the person was correct, the crime was correct.

During the trial, the defendant was stubborn, gave evasive statements, and lacked sincerity. After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel sentenced Dang Van Han to 20 years in prison.
